Today is Veterans Day, an official, federal holiday here
in the United States. It is a day
intended to honor and thank all of the military personnel who have served our
great country; these men and women are known as veterans. Veterans Day originated as a day set aside to
remember the anniversary of the end of World War I. For the battles of World War I formally ended
at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in the
year 1918.
This Veterans Day, to show my eternal gratitude and
support to not only my loved ones who have so proudly served in the United
States Armed Forces, but to every veteran young or old, living or dead, I have
written this poem:
American
Soldiers
By:
Lysa Wilds
Without
a question or a doubt,
They
gave us all they had to give.
Their
sacrifices were not small,
As
they sacrificed it all.
Their
homes, their lives, their families,
They
sacrificed everything.
Just
as some sacrificed their dreams,
Some
battle scars cannot be seen.
Our
soldiers young and our soldiers old,
Fought
for our freedoms so brave and so bold.
They
fought through day as well as night,
They
fought for us and all of our rights.
As
some still live while others have died,
American
Soldiers deserve nothing but our pride.
Even
though we might not know their names,
We
owe them all for all they gave.

A great big thank you to all who have and still do serve
in the United States Military, as well as their families. Your service and sacrifices can never be repaid. Today and every day I hope you are thanked
from the heart from all that you meet!
xx
Lysa
